Ill take hannay as a Qlder might be what we need he wouldn't be with the maroons if he was crap Hopefully he has a good relationship with Tino

This is good news, probably the best option for us given he's currently an assistant coach for a top 8 side and an assistant for the Maroons, he should be motivated as well given this is his first head coaching job.

We just have to hope that he has relationships he can utilise or that he's someone that Origin stars and quality first graders will want to play for. Being able to get the best out of our squad obviously important also.
 
Has the Club confirmed Hannay? CM again dipping in where they aren’t wanted. If he has the job Hannay will be our first Qld coach. Going to be a baptism by fire as the Club rebuilds and he will be facing a torrid time. Who was the last center to be a successful club coach?

And thanks for having a crack Des, just didn’t work out.
 
Probably a dumb question but would Hannay be able to say to the club hey I want to see some things tried in these last 2 games to give me an idea of what I’m working with in 2026. For example Kini at 1, Brimson wherever, Gordon given a run, some of the younger guys given a run over guys who won’t be here next year.

I’m assuming they wouldn’t want to step on Des’ toes but just wondering.

Gold Coast Titans to sever ties with Des Hasler at end of 2025 season, Josh Hannay to be appointed as new coach​

The Titans have confirmed they will part ways with veteran coach Des Hasler at the end of the season, with the Gold Coast club set to baptise a rookie NRL head coach as his replacement in 2026.

The Gold Coast Titans are poised to appoint Josh Hannay as their new head coach after confirming they will sever ties with veteran coach Des Hasler at the end of this season.
Hasler had one year remaining on his contract for 2026, but the Titans have opted to go in a new direction after finishing 14th last season and managing just five wins this season to be currently sitting last on the NRL ladder and firm favourites for the wooden spoon.

The 64-year-old will coach the Titans for the club’s two remaining matches of the season against The Dolphins and Wests Tigers.

Titans chairman Dennis Watt said Hasler is a true icon of the game and thanked him for his time at the club.

“His deep knowledge, passion and unwavering commitment to excellence have been evident every day he has worked with our club,” Watt said.

“While this season hasn’t gone as planned, Des has conducted himself with the dignity and class that has defined his entire career.”

News Corp can reveal Hannay will replace Hasler.

The current Sharks assistant coach has accepted a three-year deal to commence his coaching journey as an NRL head coach on the Gold Coast from next season.

It is a baptism of fire for the Moranbah-born 45-year-old, faced with leading the game’s perennial underachievers to long-term success.

Despite having the option of waiting to assess what rival clubs decide around their coaching structure, Gold Coast determined that the in-demand Hannay is the man to take control of the Titans, a club that have made the finals just four times in the past 19 seasons.

The massive task of taking over from Hasler and lifting the club off the NRL canvas as 2025 wooden spoon favourites is believed to be a major appeal to Hannay.

It’s understood the Titans have spent the past month surveying and researching their coaching options for 2026 and beyond.

Queensland State of Origin coach Billy Slater is believed to have offered a resounding appraisal of Maroons assistant Hannay when recently contacted by the Titans.

Across the game, Hannay has been widely considered the hottest coach in-waiting due to his success in working with the Maroons and repeated finals appearances alongside Craig Fitzgibbon at the Sharks and previously with former Cowboys coach Paul Green.

Hannay was also pipped by Jason Ryles for the Eels head coaching position last year.

Players that have been coached by Hannay speak of an outstanding communicator with the ability to deliver a game plan that is clear and authoritative.

He will also prove a significant recruitment lure for the Titans with his strong working relationships with a host of elite Maroons players.

Hannay will remain with Cronulla as they head towards a fourth successive finals series.

However, the new Titans coach is unlikely to waste time addressing two major priorities within the roster which includes stopping captain Tino Fa’asuamlaei from hitting the open market on November 1, while also determining if highly-paid forward David Fifita should be let go to join South Sydney.
 
Hope he brings Daniel Holdsworth as the attack coach. Extremely talented but I do declare a conflict of interest having coached him previously many many years ago:
