Solution 1. Apologise to the Legion and move them back to their rightful spot.

Solution 2. Start acting like supposed car dealership moguls and compete with The for the best SEQ talent. Wasn't the point of bringing in new minority ownership to increase pathways investment?

Solution 3. Fire Steve because the fact he promised 4 premierships between the NRL/NRLW by 2030 shows he's a clueless twat at best, if not deceitful at worst. Shane Richardson is available and has done a lot more than Mitchell in the game. He might consider a relocation for the right package.

Solution 4. Review board governance and consider changes, pay for proven NRL board executives.

Solution 5. Shoot our 2025/26 home jerseys and Chris Randall into the sun.

It won't happen tonight for talent coming into the team. Are there meant to be 18/19/20/21 year old NRL talents pop out of the ground????????

Where's all the SEQ talent walking around in the league lately? Donkeys arent doing great and we'll be pouncing on any decent talent from Phins.

Fair enough , at least they are actual suggestions.
But interestingly, none of them require ownership change.

Move the Legion? Management decision.

Invest more in pathways and compete harder for SE QLD talent? Football department and resourcing decision are absolutely something ownership should fund.

Replace Steve with Richardson or someone better? Again, ownership making a change, not ownership changing.

Review the board and bring in more proven rugby league experience? Agree and again, that can happen under the existing ownership.

If the argument is that the club needs better football people, better pathways and better decisions, I am with you. If the argument is that none of that can happen unless the owners sell, I am not convinced.

The owners should be accountable for the people they appoint, no argument. And perhaps they have been too slow to make changes. But we are seeing positive change away from the field.

But this isn’t an underfunded club with poor facilities and no resources. The problem has been how those resources have been used and the football decisions being made.

What we have lacked is enough quality football decision making to turn that investment into results

I thought both Mal and Des appointments made sense at the time.
I backed both. Hindsight tells us differently.

I would rather fix and invest in off field football brains than change the owners.

I bet we spend close to lowest on the football department compared to all other clubs.

I could write a 10 point list on what our owners could do better, from game day experience, to community engagement.
,the branding of our team, to football the overall budgets, extra coaching staff for skills positions, and role appointments.

We apparently get out bid in the junior contract wars, other systems have more junior coaches than ours, we don't have the best recruitment officers, we don't have any of the games best football department operators etc etc. too lazy to be comprehensive about it but we are in the bottom 4 every year and thats a reflection of ownership and nothing else.

I didn't see this game again. It would have been a 5am start to just have the radio call, so once again, I'm glad I missed it. My first reaction when I saw the score was "only 8 points difference - that's better than I thought it would be." Then I saw the 8 point lead at half time and thought the first half must've been a helluva lot better than I thought it would be and the second half - our typical performance lately.

Looking at NRL.com's unreliable stats again and wondering if true, about the bench rotation. Why did Bodhi get only 6 minutes in his first stint and then 12 minutes in his second stint? Did Randy really play 57 minutes straight? Why? Did Morrin really play 80? Why is Tino playing 71 minutes (and so many near full games lately)?

Also, how was Bai today? Did Morrin play edge and how did he go?

 

[5 Year Contract]

At the end of the day after watching the replay today came down to 4 50/50 moments where the players have done the lowest IQ plays that directly led to tries. Moes 2 knock ons were absolutely pathetic and just not acceptable, Illias brain snap which again I hope to never see him outside of QCup and Sami passing off the ground.

Yes we were poor in attack and defence in the second half. Yes, we switched off. But again and I say it everyone single solitary ******* weeek!!!!!! The difference between winning and losing for us so many times is just for once making the right play. No dumb errors, no 10% plays and no switching off when the game is on the line. How many games do we let slip? Why are we never comfortable with any lead because we all know our players will just **** up and hand the lead over. It’s never earnt it’s just us beating ourselves.

Why is it just our club no matter the cattle who just can’t seem to get that right. Maddening. Anyways onto next week. Thank god the misery ends in 2 weeks.

So close to a huge scalp. But same issues rearing their head again regarding lack of concentration/discipline, middle weakness and edge defense. So the game didn't reveal anything we didn't know about us. But it did reveal to me at least that the sharks are not a serious contender this year. They are not at the level of the riff, warriors or the chooks. Just 2 more weeks of the wretched year to go. Then I guess we all have to find the 2nd team to cheer during finals.

Both Hasler and Hannay have said the club is as funded or better than many Sydney clubs, so I am not convinced funding is the issue.
We will never match the Broncs, Roosters, Dogs etc

On juniors, there will always be another club willing to pay more for good talent, particularly clubs without our junior base. We cannot keep everyone we need to identify, retain and develop a good share of the right ones.

From the addition of Carney and restructure of the pathways and the players who made their debut this year, with a few of the NRLQ players, that seems to be heading in the right direction

I would love better or a change in branding and game day too, but fix the football first.

Just to weigh in here because I’ve seen a bit of firing from the hip or regurgitating of bits and pieces that aren’t really correct. Our junior program isn’t this shoe string operation that can’t compete for any kids because we’re too poor.

There’s some clubs - notably the Dolphins and Roosters - who will always outbid anyone else for junior talent. Particularly the big fish who have 5+ clubs lining up for them. These clubs are willing to spend more and are willing to absorb the loss on investment if the player doesn’t work out. It’s an nrl wide challenge that every club is faced with, including the Broncos who are feeling the Dolphins influence more than us in that space. Until the nrl caps spend on players at junior age groups, it’ll continue to exist. We’ve still managed to compete despite this and have built a strong pipeline across most age groups (some better than others as with any club) but even still we’ve seen in the last 12 months another injection of funding into the program to help us along and plan for the future.

More specifically they have in recent times leaned into resourcing and beefing up our jr program with key personnel. This helps with recruitment because it strengthens the quality of development the player is perceived to be getting and you can leverage that. And honestly, it’s getting some really good outcomes. Kids are committing when there’s more money elsewhere. We’re landing players who we have had to compete with a bunch of other clubs for. And this is with an nrl team that’s doing us little favours in selling the dream.

Women’s program is the same thing - we’ve got arguably the best junior program in the country but they’ve invested even more into it in the last 6 months with new roles to strengthen pathways and development. We’re seeing the tip of that iceberg come through at NRLW level now.

Johns has said that Carney and Keating got a list together of juniors and basically nailed all of them + Having Johns coming up is as good as a coach.

In January our 17s beat Newcastle 20-8 with a bunch of 16 year olds, Knights went on to win HM final 22-0 against Rorters and 19s was 8-8 and they made the SG ball final and had 6 Aus schoolboys, We're doing Ok hahaha.

Pretty sure there's a football department cap as well and Hannay cut back on staff purposely.

 

[Whats Doing]

The NRL were planning to introduce salary caps for juniors (under 15 upwards) from 2027 but have not heard whether this will be implemented but it is long overdue.

It should be the quality of the program and not the size of contract that is the determining figure in signing players which would in the longer term elevate the quality of coaching juniors as they would be competing predominantly on coaching quality and not income.

This in turn would strengthen the NRL overall in the long term as more quality juniors would result.
